Martina Snelson Carter, 90, of Givens Estates in Asheville, died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

She was born in the Alexander community to the late Harley and Kitty Snelson on September 3, 1919. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Evalee Fulbright, of Lake Junaluska, Christine Prater, of Lakeland, FL, Pauline Snelson, of Weaverville, and Frances Snelson, of Mars Hill.

Mrs. Carter received her college education at Mars Hill College and for 34 years was employed at Wachovia Bank, in Asheville. Following retirement from Wachovia, she moved to Louisville, KY, where she worked as administrative assistant at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member. Before moving to Givens Estates, she was active in community and civic affairs. She was a member of the Beverly Hills Garden Club.

She is survived by a niece, Sylvia Echols, of Rock Hill, SC, and two nephews, Dr. Robert Fulbright, of Lake Junaluska, and Oscar Prater, of Winter Haven, FL.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Leicester, with Dr. Robert G. Fulbright officiating.
