Services for Mary Akerman, 73, of Palestine, Texas were Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. John Culpepper officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A rosary was recited Friday in Hassell & Foster Funeral Home Chapel led by Alex Kobar. Mrs. Akerman died July 19, 1985 in Tyler Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. She was born December 12, 1911, in Minnesota, a daughter of John and Mary Deutch Hendricks and had resided in Palestine since 1955. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Palestine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907. Survivors include her husband, Charley Akerman; daughters, Mary Agnes Bedre of Palestine and Dorothy Jean Asher and Mary Pauline Conley, both of Hurst; sons, Tony Akerman of Houston and Paul Akerman of Palestine; two sisters, Gertrude Pearson of Stafford and Agnes Pearson of Austin, and 11 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Johnny Martine, Orlies Brown, Jason Akerman, Pat Asher, Allen Conley and Eddie Ray Bedre.
