Edward Lee was the son of John Lee and Martha Howlett. He served in the War of 1812 with the 42nd & 49th Regiments (Smith and Veazey Co's.), Maryland Militia. Edward married Sarah Michael 1817 and had 9 children (6 sons and 3 daughters). Five of the sons fought in the Civil War. One was killed at the Battle of Bentonville, NC and is buried in the Raleigh National Cemetery. Edward's son, Alexander, was present at the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House.
