MUNCY — William L. Aunkst, 76, of 408 S. Washington St., passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
He was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Turbotville, a son of the late William and Hanna (Poust) Aunkst. He was married for 50 years to the former Marjorie Young who preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2004.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of the Hughesville High School, following graduation he entered the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After his discharge from the Navy he worked as a machine operator for the former Sprout-Bauer, now Andritz and retired there in 1993 after a career of 41 years.
He was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy, Edward Smith Post 3428 V.F.W., Muncy Lodge 299 F. &A.M. and the Williamsport Consistory, and a member of the Susquehannock & Shikellamy Car Clubs.
Bill was an old car enthusiast and could be observed occasionally driving around town as well as in parades in his 1959 Ford station wagon.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Brian D. and Kim, of Morrison, Colo.; one daughter, Holly A., of Muncy; three grandchildren, Lisa Artley and husband Bob, Andrew Aunkst and Lauren Aunkst; three great-grandchildren, Byron, Tashia and Tyler Artley; and his special friend, Joyce Pfefferkorn, of Muncy.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic service at 8:45, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grenoble's, Muncy, followed by the funeral at 11, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
