Evelyn Martha Aitken, age 94, died on April 18, 2010. She was born August 4, 1915, in Earlville, Illinois to Clyde and Jennie Stalter.

There will be no service. Cremation is planned. Burial will be at the Precint Cemetary in Earlville, Illinois.

Evelyn spent her youth on a farm east of Leland, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University located in Bloomington, Illinois where she was a charter member of Egas, a leadership sorority. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Omicron, a social sorority.

She completed her Master's Degree in Physical Education, Dance and Recreation in 1948 at Illinois State University located in Normal, Illinois. She was honored by the Illinois American Red Cross for 15 years of volunteer service teaching swimmers.

She also received a certificate of appreciation from the Chicago Area Business Education Association. On June 24, 1955, she married William Chapman Aitken of Leland and Chicago, Illinois. They built their home in Palos Park, Illinois. In June, 1975, she and her husband moved to Colorado Springs for retirement.

Evelyn and Bill traveled extensively throughout the world via Trans World Airlines. Both became accomplished golfers and entered numerous Senior Golf Association of America tournaments. Evelyn was a member of many organizations.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs; a life member of the American Association of University Women; a life member of Culper's Angels of the Confederate Air Force; a life member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association; and she was a member of the Colorado State Senior Women's Golf Association, Inc.

Evelyn would like to be remembered for her contribution for helping lay the "groundwork" for the Illinois and Michigan 92 mile Lineal Park in Illinois with the support of a Republican State representative named Romie Palmer.

Evelyn's husband recently predeceased her. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant View Lutheran Home, 505 College Avenue, Ottawa, Illinois 61350 or to the charity of the giver's choice.
