Dies Following Long Illness

Emma Hansen Windley, 50, died at 4:15 a.m., Monday, in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was born August 27, 1909, in Garden City, the eldest daughter of 14 children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen. She was married to the late Vernest F. Windley, January 3, 1927, and the ceremony was later solemnized in the LDS Temple, Salt Lake City.

A resident of Montpelier since her marriage, Mrs. Windley was past Grand Noble of the Montpelier Rebekah Lodge, and an active member of the Montpelier LDS Fourth Ward, working in the Relief Society and Primary. For 25 years she was a member and worker in the Montpelier American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen of Garden City, two sons, Vernest Eugene Windley of Idaho Falls and Thomas Gilbert Windley of Boise; one daughter, Eldora Windley of Montpelier; and three grandchildren, Marsha and Michael Windley of Idaho Falls, and Jerry Windley of Boise.

Eight brothers and four sisters also survive: Delbert, Thomas, and Russell Hansen, all of Garden City; LaVarr, LeRoy and Jack Hansen, all of Ogden; Willard Hansen of Paris and Hans Hansen of Montpelier; Mrs. Weston (Leah) Barker of Evanston, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Lane of Montpelier, Mrs. Clyde (Ilene) Kennedy and Mrs. Ross (Mildred) Smith, both of Garden City.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Montpelier LDS Fourth ward chapel with Bishop Doyle W. Armstrong conducting. The opening song, In the Garden, was by Winslow Swenson and Mrs. Walter Hunzeker, accompanied by Mrs. Lester Armitage; invocation, Walter Buhler; obituary, Counselor Ferris Hess; vocal solo, "He", Mrs. Hunzeker; speaker Alvin Tueller; vocal solo, "My Prayer," Mrs. Dean Larsen; speaker, Bishop Paul Spence; vocal solo, "I've Done My Work," Mrs. Hunzeker; benediction, George Simmons. Prayer at the mortuary was offered by Bishop Anthony.

Interment was in the Garden City Cemetery. Matthews Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Montpelier - Funeral Services for Emma Hansen Windley, 50, life resident of Bear Lake valley, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier LDS Fourth Ward.

She died Monday in Bear Lake Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen, she was born Aug. 27, 1909 in Garden City, Utah. She was married to Vernest F. Windley Jan. 3, 1927 and the ceremony was solemnized in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City.

A resident of Montpelier since her marriage, Mrs. Windley was active in civic affairs. She has been past grand noble of the Rebecca Lodge and has served for over 25 years in the American Legion Auxiliary. She also has been active in the LDS Church on primary work.

Surviving are her parents of Garden City, Utah; two sons, Vernest Eugene Windley, Idaho Falls and Thomas Gilbert Windley, Boise; one daughter, Eldora Vilate Windley, Montpelier; and three grandchildren.

Eight brothers survive, including Hans Hansen of Montpelier; and four sisters, including Mrs. Harold Lane, Montpelier.

Burial will be in the Garden City, Utah, cemetary under direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
