She had the distinction of being the second white child born in Henry county. Her girlhood days were spent in the home of her parents, a Baptist parsonage, her father being a Baptist preacher in Mount Pleasant. Here she received her education and grew to young womanhood.
Just a few years before her marriage to Aaron Gaskill, of Hedrick, in 1859, she with her parents moved to this vicinity. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Mary Bennett, of Piedmont, Oklahoma, and Charles Gaskill, of Vancouver, B.C.. Her husband, Mr. Gaskill, died while serving as a soldier in the Civil war.
In 1866 Mrs. Gaskill was united in marriage to Richard W. Bennett, of Hedrick. To Mr. and Mrs. Bennett were born two children, Mrs. Ida Meier and Richard A. Bennett, both of Hedrick. Mrs. Bennett was a real mother to the two children of Mr. Bennett by a former marriage, Chas. D. Bennett, of Delta, who survives, and Mrs. Millie Ritter, who has been deceased for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Mary Bennett, of Piedmont, Oklahoma; Charles Gaskill, of Vancouver, B.C.; Mrs. Ida Meier and R. A. Bennett, of Hedrick; C. D. Bennett of Delta, and 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends, who all loved Grandmother Bennett, as she was affectionately called by her numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Thursday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. Geo. Filmer. A male quartet from the church sang the hymns which she loved, and often sang herself, and O. J. Jerde sang a beautiful solo. Interment was made in the Brooks cemetery.
