Born of Jewish Russian parents, she attended high school in New Albany, Indiana and went on to study at Chicago University for three years. Her parents ran a dry goods store in Tell City. She moved to New York City and founded her own jewelry business. She designed costume jewelry for all women including movie stars, Joan Crawford and Lucille Ball. Her jewelry was also worn by Gloria Vanderbilt and the Duchess of Windsor. Top of the line Haskell jewelry was produced in New York City from the 1920s to the 1960s. Miriam Haskell was known for her Baroque Pearls.
