He married Rebecca Hudson on Dec 16,1662 at Lynn, MA.

Children: Mary Ballard Haven, Rebecca Ballard Stacey(possibly)the second wife of Henry Stacey), Nathaniel Ballard, Susanna Ballard Fuller, Elizabeth Ballard, Esther Ballard Becket, Sarah Ballard, Jemima Ballard, William Ballard, and Nathaniel Ballard Jr.

Nathaniel inherited lands from his father William, as shown in public records with Essex County, MA [Interstate File #1598 and #1599 Lynn, MA]:
"Know all men by these presents the I, Elizabeth Bread of Lynn, in ye county of Essex and ye wife of William Knight as also his lawful executrix do hereby upon good considerations and divers good causes moving thereunto do hereby freely give and grant by this my deed of gift unto my well beloved son Nathaniel Ballard that parcel of land bought by my late husband William Ballard father of ye said Nathaniel Ballard, that is to say five acres of upland being more or less bounded East upon ye highway North with land of Allen Bread senr and with ye land of Samuel Hart and Benjamin Chadwell West with ye land of John Ballard. 18, 8 mo. 1681 acknowledged by Elizabeth Bread 3, 1 mo. 1673".

Dec. 3rd 1675 Capt. Prentice was appointed to command a "Troop of Horse" Calvary, in what was called the Narragansett Campaign. On the 19th of December, Prentice's Troop took part in the battle of the Fort. [Massachusetts Archives Vol. 68 pg. 73].

Nathaniel is listed from Feb. 29, 1675-6, as taking part in scouting trips into Pomham's Country (Warwick, R.I.) ["Soldiers in King Phillip's War" by George M. Bodge, 1896, p.82].
