He was sheriff of Montgomery County from 1961-80 and a Navy veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW and Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Eloise E. Thompson of Mount Vernon; sons, Louie Thompson Jr. and Charlie S. Thompson, both of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Vickie T. Gaultney of Lyons; two brothers, Earl Thompson of Mount Vernon and Mac Thompson of Blackshear; a sister, Betty Gilbert of Macon; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL: 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, burial in Glenn Thompson Cemetery near McGregor.
