David Columbus was the 5th child born to Nathan Hicks and Eunice Jane Hicks (Buchanan). He was married to Ruth Rominger and his second wife was Jean (Cooke) Hicks. He has a son, David C. Hicks, Jr. of Georgia; daughter Janice McClendon of Georgia.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, an active song leader, veteran of the Korean War, and retired as a postal letter carrier.
He died while leading the singing at the Red Bank Church of Christ. He had heart disease.
