Mrs. Adelaide Worth McAlister, widow of Colonel Alexander C. McAlister, and mother of Mrs. J.F. Carson, of Charlotte and Asheboro; died Monday afternoon at the home of her son, A.W. McAlister, in Greensboro. She had been in declining health for three months. She was 81 years of age.

Mrs. McAlister was a daughter of the late Dr. J. M. Worth, and his wife, Sarah Dicks, of Asheboro, and a niece of Governor Johnathan Worth. She was sister of Captain Shubal Gardner Worth who lost his life in 1864 in the service of the Confederacy. She was also a sister of Mrs. Robert Bingham, who died at Mebane in 1886, and a sister of Thomas C. Worth, who died in Greensboro in 1891.

Mrs. McAlister was married in 1861 to the late Colonel Alexander C. McAlister, who succeeded Colonel William L. Saunders in command of the North Carolina 46th Regiment, Confederate Army.

She is survived by six children, Alexander Worth McAlister and James S. McAlister, of Greensboro; Mrs. J.E. Carson, of Charlotte and Asheboro; Miss May McAlister, of Asheboro; Charles Colvin McAlister and Thomas Gilmer McAlister, of Fayetteville. She lost two children, Elise and John Worth McAlister. Elise in 1899 and John Worth in 1909.

Her grandchildren are: McAlister Carson, Mrs. Eddie Jones, Miss Maud Carson, John Worth Carson, Misses Sarah and Edna Carson, all of Charlotte; John Worth McAlister, Lacy and Alexander McAlister, Misses Jean and Flax McAlister, children of A.W. McAlister, of Greensboro; James McAlister, son of J.S. McAlister, Miss Adelaide and John Worth McAlister of Winston-Salem.

Mrs. McAlister was educated at the famous Edgeworth school in Greensboro. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church, was richly endowed intellectually, having inherited a high order of ancestral talent. Her kinship and family connection are large, extending not only to all sections of North Carolina, but to northern and New England states and to several western states.

The funeral services will be held at Asheboro Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Hal M. Worth, McAlister and Miss Sarah Carson are among the Charlotte people who expect to attend the service.
