Everall Albert "E.A." Ross was the 1st of 4 children of William Ross and Lydia Levina Yerian. He is listed in Perry Co., Illinois, in the 1860 federal census as "Thomas A," and again so listed in 1870 at Lincoln, Crawford Co., Kansas. In 1880 he lived with his parents in Jewell Co., Kansas and is listed as "Albert." He married Elvira O. Tolen, the daughter of Sarah Ragsdale and Leander Tolen, in about 1882 in Jewell County. They lived first at Ionia, where he was a school teacher and served as assessor for the 1885 Kansas state census. The family moved from Mankato to Burr Oak, Jewell County, Kansas, in 1893 when he purchased "The Burr Oak Herald." He was printer and publisher of this newspaper until his death, when it was passed on to his wife and son Harry.
