Dr. Thomas Broer was born in Wiesbaden, Germany. After his A-level examinations, he studied medicine in Mainz, while in his spare time he loved to play handball.

Thomas served as a Major of the Medical Corps in the Ulm German Forces Hospital. Specializing in dermatology, Thomas was about to finish the last exams which were due this year.

He was sent to Afghanistan to support the medical team there. On April 15, about half an hour after an attack on an Eagle IV which cost the lives of 3 German soldiers and left 5 more seriously injured, the mobile doctors troop was attacked, probably with mortars, and Thomas sadly lost his young life. He was only 33, leaving behind his mother and wife, and many friends and colleagues to mourn him.
