John Isbell's heirs inherited Allen Isbell Mountain which his children and grandchildren leased to John's 4th cousin John Brown Gordon and brothers who operated the Belmont Coal Company. John Brown Gordon (1832-1904), later Governor of Georgia, and brothers Zachariah Chapman Gordon (1829-1871), Eugene Cornelius Gordon (1845-1913), and Walter Scott Gordon (1848-1886), were sons of Zachariah Herndon Gordon (1794-1886) and Malinda Cox (1805-1867), great-granddaughter of William Cox (1700-1751) who was a brother of Hannah Cox Isbell (Mrs. Henry Isbell), the mother of Zachariah Isbell Sr., the great-grandfather of John Isbell whose children leased Allen Isbell Mountain and additional properties to John's 4th cousins, the Gordon brothers and the Belmont Coal Co. The Isbell heirs later ended up suing Belmont Coal Co. and recovering a fraction of the monies promised them by the Gordons.
