Deppe Rites at Kellogg are Today

Kellogg - Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Kellogg at two o'clock this afternoon for Ernest Deppe 93, Kellogg area farmer who died at the Community Hospital in Grinnell at 1:30 o'clock Saturday morning.

Mr. Deppe was born in Lippedetmalt (Lippe Detmold), Germany Nov. 26, 1857. He received his education in Germany and was married to Augusta Brune March 7, 1886 in Germany.

Shortly after his marriage he and his bride came to America in 1886. They first lived in Newton, later moving to Baxter where they resided five years before moving to a farm northeast of Kellogg which was the family home for 50 years.

Mr. Deppe was preceded in death by his wife who passed away in 1938 and a son and a daughter.

Survivors include four sons William, Herman, and Albert of near Kellogg and Henry of Grinnell; twelve grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Deppe was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kellogg for many years. Rev. Carleton F. Rohr, pastor, officiated at the services and burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Kellogg.

Pallbearers were all grandchildren of Mr. Deppe, Loren, Maynard, Ernest S., Dale, Albert, and Gerald Deppe.

Mrs. Harry Hartzell, Mrs. Fred Murphy, Mrs. Ralph Parker and Miss Maxine Loupee were in charge of the floral tributes.

Mrs. Russell Parsons sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide with Me" accompanied by Mrs. George Schaumburg at the organ.


Note: Ernst Deppe was born in Lippe Detmoldt, Germany and came to America on SS Werra, Bremen, Germany to New York arriving April 6, 1886.
