The daughter of Herman Reisenbeck and Christina Bertke Reisenbeck, Maria Catherin Reisenbeck Estermann was born in Hanover, Germany in 1832 and moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1858 where she married Bernard "Barney" Estermann, a saloon keeper, on November 16, 1858 at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Their children were Catherine "Kate" Estermann, Anna Maria "Annie" Estermann Kruthaup, Mary Esterman Kathman, Henry J. "Harry" Esterman, Clara H. Estermann Meiners, and at least two more who died young. In 1880 the family lived on Warsaw Avenue in Cincinnati. In her old age she (and her son Harry) lived with her youngest child, Clara, and Clara's family. Catherin died of capillary bronchitis at age 78 on November 27, 1910 in Cincinnati and is buried beside her husband in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Cincinnati. Her great-grandson, Thomas J. Donnelly, and a few grandchildren are buried nearby.

DNA testing reveals Catherin and her direct female ancestors and descendants and their brothers are of the clan of "Helena" (mtDNA haplogroup H) who lived 20,000 years ago in the Dordogne region of southwest France near the present city of Perpignan on the Mediterranean, gathering oysters and hunting and creating cave paintings.
