His wife was Sarah Ann Grubbs Deppen, born April 25, 1841, in Brimfield, Portage, Ohio, and died December 20, 1928, in Kirwin, Phillips County, KS.

I. N. Deppen who has been sick for so long died at his home Tuesday at noon. Particulars and obituary will be published next week.
Isaac N. Deppen, aged 78 years, 8 months, and 22 days passed away at his home in Kirwin, February 16, 1915. Mr. Deppen was born in Canton, Stark County, Ohio, May 24, 1838. In April 1856 he was married to Sarah A. Grubb in Ohio. He is survived by his wife, four sons, Lewis, Frank, Canby, and John, and one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Horsman, one son Peter having died some years ago.
He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, two brothers, J. A. Deppen of Stewartsville, Missouri, and A. J. Deppen of St. Joseph, Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Attebury of St. Joseph, Missouri.
He was a staunch and local member of the G.A.R. having given some of the best days of his life to the cause of the Union Army in the Rebellion. During his later years he was afflicted with dropsical trouble which terminated in his death.
Mr. Deppen died a Christian and during his last days he was strong in his trust in God. He prayed much for grace to endure his intense suffering and felt the presence of his Savior near. Thus another of our oldest citizens has passed to his reward.
As a young man Mr. Deppen moved from Ohio to Indiana and later to Missouri and located on a farm near Germantown in Smith County in 1877 where he lived until about 30 years ago when he and his family moved to Kirwin. For three or fours years he carried the Star Mail Route between Kirwin and Bloomington, Nebraska. This was before the Rock Island Railroad was built. Kirwin has since been his home but for the past several years he has been unable to do any active work.
The funeral service was conducted from the family residence by Rev. Gordon Waggoner, and the interment was made in the Kirwin Cemetery.
