Helen Marie (Staples) Beving was born in Carroll County near Lidderdale, Iowa on Monday; July 4, 1910 at a home her parents Howard and Alvina (Borcherding) Staples were renting. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1927. While in high school, she began fixing hair for family friends. Her dad took her to someone's home on Saturdays to learn to do Marcels. She got her Cosmetology license when she was a senior. She attended the Iowa State Teacher's College for a year to get her teaching certificate. She taught in a rural school near Auburn for two years. She then taught for four years at two different country schools near Wellsburg, Pleasant Valley #9 and the Flowing-Well School. She married John Beving on October 21, 1934 in McGregor, Iowa. Leaving teaching, she decided to do beauty work full time, first on Main Street and eventually a shop in her home. The home they lived in for forty four years was acquired in a sales transaction of the hardware store-a trade of the house for a tractor! They moved to Denver in October of 1981. John died April 5, 1984, just 6 months short of their 50th anniversary. She lived in Denver for 26 years before moving to Arizona in January 2007 where 2 of her daughters lived. She resided at The Garnet for 10 months in 2009 and moved to Jaiden Manor where she passed away March 28, 2010, just a few months short of reaching her 100th birthday in July. Helen Marie (Staples) Beving, age 99, passed away on Sunday; March 28, 2010 at the Jaiden Manor in Casa Grande; Pinal County, Iowa.
