Charles Zebulon Pond Jr born 21 Apr 1891 Helena, Lewis & Clark Co MT
After the death of her husband Charles Pond, the widow Montana Pearl (Merriman) Pond moved to Alameda CA and lived by her son. In the 1910 census she stated they had had 3 children but only one survived.
Bio:
Charles Zebulon Pond Sr. was Chief Clerk of the Montana legislature in 1889, and Chief Clerk of the House in 1912. He had also served the State of Montana as deputy inspector or weights and measures and the federal government with the department of commerce and labor. He was a resident of Bozeman, MT for many years. One very interesting newspaper clipping account of something that occurred during his service as Chief Clerk in MT was this: "Eighty-five volumes of Lincoln county's records already transcribed and six blank books were yesterday taken by C.Z. Pond and will be kept in his possession until a satisfactory settlement is made regarding the payment for the work. Mr. Pond who arrived on the previous day, and who endeavored to bring about an arrangement yesterday afternoon, sent a dray to the court house and had the books taken away and locked up. When asked this morning as to how much remained back on the contract, he was reticent, saying he had not figured it up and wished to come to an understanding with County Clerk Charles Young, who is in charge of the books during the transcribing, and whose deputies have beenproof reading and correcting the copy. The books have not yet been certified.
