Betty Lou was the daughter of Ivel "Cotton" and Caroline (Thompson) Swearengin. She graduated from Indianola High School. She married Larry Linney in 1952, at McAlester. She worked in the shoe department at Hunt's before moving to Texas. She graduated from beauty college in Austin and lived in Dallas, working as a hairdresser before returning to McAlester in 1978. She enjoyed gardening, camping, building campfires and traveling to bluegrass festivals and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Scipio Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Larry Linney Sr., of the home; daughter, Cheryl Linney, of Rockwall, Texas; sons, George Linney and wife, Nancy, of McAlester, Larry Linney Jr. and wife, Elise, of Washington, Aaron Linney, of Tannehill. And, granddaughters, Lauren Bannon, of Austin, Texas, Peyton Linney, of Bache, Madison Linney; grandson, Morgan Linney, of Washington; sister, Sylvia Compton and husband, L.J., of Tannehill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivel and Caroline Swearengin. Pallbearers include Harold Ott, Roger Lott, Danny Conn, Jerry Linney, Charlie Vaughan and Steve Kerns. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Daniel Milligan officiating. Burial will be at Tannehill Cemetery, Tannehill Community, under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
