Gary was the son of Garrett William Slanger and Helen M. Knauff. His younger brother, Sherin Glenn Slanger, preceded him in death. He was survived by his wife and four children. Note: Gary suffered a heart attack in his Chicago home and most likely died there. He was DOA at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park.
