Durkin, 24, of Aurora, Colo. died April 9 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device near Forward Operating Base Wilson, Afghanistan, on March 27. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Carson, Colo.

An Army sergeant who died from wounds received in a bomb attack in Afghanistan last month will be buried tomorrow in his native Easton.
A funeral service for Sgt. Sean M. Durkin will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Phillipsburg Alliance Church, 255 Lincoln St., Phillipsburg, followed by a funeral procession to Hay's Cemetery on Easton's South Side, where Durkin grew up.
Easton Police Department will close Larry Holmes Drive between the Northampton Street "Free" Bridge and S. Third Street at 11:30 a.m. to prepare for the procession. Citizens wishing to pay their respects may line Larry Holmes Drive at noon along with fire, police and emergency medical services personnel.The road will reopen by 1 p.m. or as soon as the procession passes.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team in Fort Carson, Colo. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving in the Army during Operation Enduring Freedom.
He and his family moved to Colorado in 2003, and he graduated from Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Durkin Jr., a brother, Justin, paternal grandfather, William J. Durkin Sr., and maternal grandmother, Dorothy Dorward.
The Strunk Funeral Home, Easton, is in charge of arrangements.
