She was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Dow, the daughter of the late Edgar & Gladys (Lewis) Palmer.
She married John M. Barnal Nov. 8, 1947 in Jerseyville. He died Aug. 16, 1990.
She worked at Principia College and Alton Box Board Company during World War II, where she made fin locks for bombs until returning to Principia College as a pastry cook. She was a matron at the Elsah Grade School and later at Jersey Community High School. She also cooked and served food to the public and workers during the 1993 flood and was a Cub Scout den mother.
She was a member of Elsah United Methodist Church, Elsah Historical Society and Jersey County Historical Society.
Survivors include a son, Edgar Michael (Pam) Barnal of Edwardsville; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Reed of Godfrey; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Edgar E. Palmer of Dorsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a step-daughter, Mary Jane Reathaford and her husband, Simpson; a daughter-in-law, Charmaine Barnal; and three sisters, Betty Callahan, Lora DeSherlia and Cora Walker.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4 at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Pastor Charles Schwaab will officiate. Burial will take place in Elsah Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Elsah United Methodist Church.
