DIES OF PNEUMONIA AFTER ILLNESS OF A WEEK---FUNERAL
ARRANGEMENTS LATER
Mrs. Elizabeth M. Officer, age 85 years 8 months and 8 days, widow of the late Thomas Officer, died of pneumonia at 2:55 o'clock Monday morning at her home, 123 South Seventh street, after an illness of one week. She is survived by one son, Charles T. Officer, of this city, a daughter, Miss Julia Officer, of Seattle, Wash., a brother, Joshua Pusey of Ottumwa, Ill., and a half brother, N. M. Pusey of this city.
Arrangements for the funeral will be made after word is received when the daughter can arrive from Seattle.
Mrs. Officer had at the time of her death lived at Council Bluffs fifty-four years. She was born in Pittsburg, Pa. and was a daughter of Nathan and Martha Mills Pusey. Her father's family history in America dates back to the founding of Pennsylvania when his ancestors came from England with William Penn. Caleb Pusey, one of them, was one of Penn's commissioners at Philadelphia.
Elizabeth Pusey was married to Thomas Officer near Brownsville, Pa., on August 8, 1848. Their home was until 1856 in Jacksonville, Ill., where Mr. Officer laid out the grounds for the state institution for the deaf, and was for ten years its superintendent. In 1856 they came to Council Bluffs where Mr. Officer entered a banking partnership with W. H. M. Pusey, a brother of Mrs. Officer. This partnership was dissolved by the death of Mr. Officer about ten years ago.
Mrs. Officer was one of thirteen charter members of the First Christian church and until the time of her death was one of its active members. She had many graces of character, and was deeply loved by a wide circle of friends.

Cooper, Ned Wirt, Frank Pinney and H. H. Pinney. Friends are requested not to send flowers.

Sherman and Mrs. N. O. Ward sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Abide With Me," two of Mrs. Officer's favorite hymns.
The pall bearers were J. G. Wadsworth, H. G. McGee, W. S. Cooper, Ned Wirt, Frank Pinney and H. H. Pinney. Burial took place in Walnut Hill cemetery.
