Pauline Hunter Graham Bradshaw, 83, passed away at home on Thursday, November 2, 2000.
She was born July 11, 1917 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was the oldest daughter of ten children born to Haywood and Jeanette Nelson Graham.
As a young adult, she loved to sing opera in the area schools. Her love of music extended to Warner Temple A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a member until relocating with her husband and family to Waukegan, IL in 1957. Pauline also lent her voice to Gideon Missionary Baptist Church and Trinity A.M.E. Church as a soloist after arriving in Waukegan. For many years she was employed as head cook at Walgreen Restaurant. She later worked at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. She and her husband, Robert, took Bible study classes with Jehovah's Witnesses for many years before illness took over. On October 17, 1998 she was baptized into that faith. She was truly happy studying with them.
She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Rudolph (Rose) of Zion, Faye (Franklin) Springs of Waukegan, Ron (Debra) of Zion, Brenda of Waukegan, Ken of Berwyn, IL and Kevin (Monica) of Waukegan; 23 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; also a special former daughter-in-law, Vanessa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert, Sr.; three sons, Noel and Frederick who died at birth, and Robert, Jr; her parents, Haywood and Jeanette; nine siblings, Wellington, Margaret Anna, Mary Elizabeth, Alice Wilma Christian, Haywood Francis, William Alexander, Dorothy Ruth York, Waldorf James and Emma Catherine Lane; daughter-in-law, Gloria Dean; and granddaughter, LaNita Da Vonne.
"Mom, you will be deeply missed. Our only consolation in your passing is to know that you are no longer suffering. Your memory will continue to guide us mentally and spiritually. For this, among other things, is your legacy to us."
