Daniel O'Hanlon January 11, 1922 - April 2, 2010 Dan was born in 1922 in County Cork, Ireland, the third son of Timothy and Katherine O'Hanlon. He lived and worked on the family farm until he emigrated to Bakersfield in 1950. He joined his uncle Eugene Sullivan here, and promptly went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He stayed with the railroad until his retirement in 1985. Dan met the love of his life, Theresa, while visiting Ireland in 1953. They married in 1954, and together started a family in Bakersfield. They were blessed with six children. Dan loved golf, and was a regular at Kern River Golf Course. He was an avid reader, and had a strong interest in politics. He was a member of St. Joseph and Our Lady of Perpetual Help parishes. Later in life, he especially enjoyed his seven grandchildren: Mark Bonas, Lauren Bonas, Daniel Ray, Stephen Ray, John O'Hanlon, Joseph O'Hanlon, and Adeline O'Hanlon. Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa O'Hanlon; daughter, Ann and her husband Mark Bonas; daughter, Katherine and her husband Gary Ray; son, Daniel and his wife Betsy O'Hanlon; son, Christopher O'Hanlon; and daughter, Eileen O'Hanlon, as well as many relatives in Ireland. He is preceded in death by his first child, Timothy O'Hanlon, who passed in 2007, and his brother, Sean O'Hanlon, who passed in 2000. Msgr. Michael Braun will celebrate a memorial mass on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church. A private internment at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary will follow later that day. www.bakersfield.com/obits
