Funeral services for Mrs. Melven Gruber were held Tuesday, March 6, in the Barkley-Davis Funeral home in Canton, with the Rev. Robert Landon, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Gary Fishback and Mrs. Stephen Glascock, with Mrs. Richard Franklin at the organ. Pall bearers were Gary Fishback, Lary Bronstine, John Freeman, Randy Bronstine, Donnie Martin and Renolds Potterfield. Burial was in Forest Grove cemetery. Mrs. Gruber died Sunday, March 4, in Blessing hospital in Quincy. Ella Gruber, the daughter of Sylvester Adelbert (Dell) and Ida Elizabeth Fishback Parker, was born in Lewis County on July 19, 1895. She was married to James Melven Gruber on August 25, 1915. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1972. Mrs. Gruber was a member of the First Baptist church of Canton; the Lyon Grange; and the Jolly Neighbors club. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Albert Fishback of Palmyra, Mrs. Keith Martin of Canton, Mrs. Clyde Briscoe of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. A. J. Bronstine of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a foster brohter, Raymond Parker of Memphis; an aunt, Mrs. Dolly Fishback of Monticello; several nieces; and other relatives. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Joe Madison Parker.
