A requiem mass for Walter F. Charley, 79, who died Monday, will be offered by the Rev. William McLeod at Sacred Heart Catholic church at 9 a.m. Saturday. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conger-Morris chapel. Committal will be in IOOF cemetery.
Mr. Charley was born Aug. 22, 1879, at Brownsboro, son of the late Nimrod Charley and Mary Hurst Charley. With the exception of one year spent in Kerby, Mr. Charley spent his entire life in Jackson county. He owned and operated sawmills in Kerby and Climax.
On Aug. 12, 1911, at the Jacksonville courthouse, he married Bertha Bryan, who preceded him is death Jan. 19, 1951.
Surviving are four sons, W. Boyden Charley and Lincoln Charley of Crescent City, Calif.; Clinton M. Charley and Wesley Charley of Eagle Point; six daughters, Mrs. Garrel Millard of McLeod, Mrs. Opal Monia, [2 living], all of Central Point, Mrs. Ruby Pruett of Fairfield, Calif., and Mrs. Rosa Lee Young of Talent; two brothers, Millroy N. Charley of Eagle Point, and Mennefee Charley of Bridge; one sister, Mrs. Meda Comstock of Medford; 51 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son and one daughter preceded him in death.
Honorary bearers will be Earl Nills, Sam Coy, Lester Scheigh, Bill Von der Hellen, Carl Von der Hellen and Tom Farlow.
Active bearers will be LaRue Morris, Harry Tonn, Henry Nelson, Lloyd Walch, Bill Holman and James Rogers.
