Marie G. Aitken, 90, of 6510 Woodland Blvd., died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 1992) at her home.
She was born Aug. 23, 1901 in Lansing, Iowa to Alphonse and Gertrude (Schaefer) Mettille. Marie moved to Winona as a young girl, attended Winona schools, and upon graduation in 1918 went to work for J. R. Watkins Co. as a private secretary to E.L. King and later E.L. King, Jr. She also served as head of the cosmetic department at Watkins until retiring in 1966. On May 10, 1957 married John Aitken in Wisconsin; he died June 4, 1967.
She is survived by two nephews, William (Mary) May of Winona and Thomas (Judy) May of Goodview; a niece, Jean (Everett) Rose of Winona; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.
Friends may call at the Fawcett Funeral Home today from 7 - 9 p.m. where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; also until time of services on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Fawcett Funeral, with the Rev. Gregory Havel, St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.
Casketbearers will be grand nephews: Michael, Stephen and Daniel Rose, Scott, Roland and James May.
