Evelyn Foss returned to Leeds after her education and fell in love with the handsome Charles Henry Coolidge. They were married for more than 50 years. Charlie predeceased Evelyn in 1982.
On the occasion of her 100th birthday, a celebration was held in Evelyn's hometown of Leeds. She was honored by family, friends, the state of Maine and more than 100 individuals who have been touched by her grace.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Faith Foss; and her brother, Lauriston. Her first-born son, Charles Courtney, predeceased Evelyn in 1998.
Her second son, Conrad Foss Coolidge, resides near Savannah, Ga., with his wife, Debbie. Evelyn is also survived by five grandchildren, Chuck, Cavan, Cheri, Mark and Greg; six great-grandchildren, Cayla, Crystal, Cavan II, Michelle, Hardy and Laurel; three great-great-grandchildren, Megan, Caden and Cameron; and extended family member Joyce.
A memorial to remember the blessings she gave and received will be held at Leeds Community Church, 160 Church Hill Road. (Kennebec Journal 4/3/2010)
