LEWISTON - Evelyn Denison Foss Coolidge, born May 27, 1908, passed away on March 31, 2010. She was the fifth generation of the Foss family to live in the town of Leeds. A beautiful young lady, she attended primary school in Leeds and went on to Kents Hill School. Evelyn was an active young woman at school and continued that spirit of social and community involvement throughout her life.
Evelyn Foss returned to Leeds after her education and fell in love with the handsome Charles Henry Coolidge. They were married for more than 50 years. Charlie predeceased Evelyn in 1982.
On the occasion of her 100th birthday, a celebration was held in Evelyn's hometown of Leeds. She was honored by family, friends, the state of Maine and more than 100 individuals who have been touched by her grace.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Faith Foss; and her brother, Lauriston. Her first-born son, Charles Courtney, predeceased Evelyn in 1998.
Her second son, Conrad Foss Coolidge, resides near Savannah, Ga., with his wife, Debbie. Evelyn is also survived by five grandchildren, Chuck, Cavan, Cheri, Mark and Greg; six great-grandchildren, Cayla, Crystal, Cavan II, Michelle, Hardy and Laurel; three great-great-grandchildren, Megan, Caden and Cameron; and extended family member Joyce.
