Mrs. Beard was born on the 4th of July, and she always did her best to live up to the happiness of that day. She was like Glinda, the Good Witch of the North; she could walk into a room and make everything light up.

She lived in Joliet, Illinois, for the last 35 years of her life. She had also lived in Niles, Michigan; South Bend, Indiana; Richmond, Indiana; and Monterey, Mexico. She was the daughter of Francis BENNITT (1895-1997) and Elizabeth "Bessie" GRAY (1898-1973). Her siblings were Robert, Paul, Betty, Vivian, Dolores, Garold, Shirley, and Ruth.

On May 9, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana, she married Max Irvin Beard, a Purdue University student who was just days away from graduation. He became an engineer for the Caterpillar Corporation, and for the first many years of their marriage, she moved the family from place to place as he was transferred. She birthed their daughter in 1944 and their son in 1948. In the early 1960s, the family moved to Monteray, Mexico, for four years while her husband was responsible for setting up a factory for the Caterpillar Corp.

Mrs. Beard was widowed in 1988. She lived her last 12 years alone.
