LONGVILLE - Gertrude Lois Wakefield Sharpe, 97, of Longville, formerly of Annandale, Lake Sylvia (near South Haven), and Minneapolis, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (Hospice) in Crosby, Minn. Services for Lois will be noon Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Bible Church in Longville, Minn., with Pastor Bill Payne and Pastor Mike Partch officiating. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Gertrude was born to Almond and Edith Wakefield at their farm in Faulk County, S.D. G. Lois was married to Jesse Sharpe on June 4, 1932, and in 1937, the couple moved to Minneapolis.
Lois' love of the Lord began in 1953 at the Lake Harriet Baptist Church on 50th and Upton in Minneapolis. Her dedication continued after they retired and moved from Minneapolis to Lake Sylvia near South Haven, Minn. Lois and her loving husband helped start a Baptist Church in Maple Lake, Minn.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Dennis) Sharpe Marine, of Longville; grandson, Mark (Rennette) Ritchie, of Brainerd; granddaughter, Lisa (Scott) Ritchie Thompson, of Minneapolis; great-granddaughters, Alissa (Nathan) Ritchie Eiesland, Beth Ritchie and Kate Thompson; great-grandson, Jack Thompson; nieces, Esther Roberts Orness and Cleora Wakefield Colin; nephew, Riny (Dolly) Ernst; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces; and great-great-nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Sharpe; her parents, A.J. and Edith (Mosher) Wakefield; sisters, Mildred Wakefield Roberts, Fana Wakefield, Jessie Wakefield Haver, Grace Wakefield Fatland and Frances Wakefield Lellie; and brothers, Hiram (Mac) Wakefield, Howard Wakefield and Ken Wakefield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
