FORT WORTH -- Joe Edward Britton, 79, a retired heavy equipment operator with the city of Fort Worth, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Burleson. Burial: Everman Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joe Edward Britton was born March 31, 1919, in Forest Hill. He was a lifelong resident of the Fort Worth area and a Baptist. He was an Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed gardening and flea markets. He had the world's biggest heart.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theda Van Britton, on Aug. 18, 1990.

Survivors: Wife, Billie J. Britton of Fort Worth; son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Beverly Kay Britton of Burleson; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Gilbert Hernandez of Forest Hill and Louita and Sonny Jones of Searcy, Ark.; sisters, Stella Chapman of Fairfield and Hazel Daugherty of Richland Hills; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
