Jabez Allyn (or Allen) was the son of Isaac Allyn and Lydia Leonard. Jabez and all of his siblings were born in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. He served in the French and Indian War as a Corporal in Lieut.-Col. Israel Putnam's Connecticut Battalion.

Jabez married Mary Darby on 3 June 1758 in the Congregational Church and Society at Brooklyn, Windham, Connecticut.
They had the following children, all born in Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut:

Daniel Allen (1758).
Anna Allen (1760), married Ignatius Wilson.
Sybil Allen (1763).
Albigence Allen (1765), married Priscilla Davis.

Lucy Allen (1773), married Benjamin Pellet.
Esther Allen (1776).
Catharine Allen (1777), married Lathrop Cushman.
Betsey Allen (1781), married Stevens Tyler.

When Jabez wrote his will on 26 Nov 1803, he named his beloved wife Mary and son Albigence, along with daughters Anna Wilson, Azubah Winslow, Lucy Pellet, Catherine Cushman, Betsey Allyn and Tamison Allyn, and granddaughter Martha Rice.
He also named as his sole executor, his "trusty friend, John Parish of Brooklyn."
He died days later, on 9 Dec 1803.
Please note that Jabez signed his surname Allyn in his will, and most of the Connecticut Town Records show this spelling. However, his headstone uses the Allen spelling.
