Herbert Palmer Whitcomb Jr died on October 5, 1990 in Claremont, NH. He was born in Lancaster, MA on March 21, 1907; son of Herbert P Sr and Elizabeth (Kent) Whitcomb.

He had been a Claremont resident most of his life.

Upon graduation from Lancaster Academy in 1926 and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA in 1929, he came to Claremont to work in the pattern department of the Old Sullivan Machine Company.

He also worked at Jones and Lamson Machine Company and Lucas Pattern Company in Springfield, VT, retiring in 1976.

On June 13, 1936 in Braintree, MA, he married Arlene V Paul of Claremont and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1986.

Although he had been retired, he continued working out of his home shop for the Lucas Pattern Company, doing special work which required his knowledge and skills.

A third generation pattern maker, he was also an excellent cabinet maker and a quiet, peaceful man.

He was a saxophone player and played in the Yacht Club Orchestra and other area bands during the 1930's, 40's, and 50's.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Joan Rouillard and son Paul K Whitcomb, both of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; one brother Edward K Whicomb of Lancaster; one sister Margaret Hawes of Plymouth, NH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Claremont.
