E.W. Alderman, January 5, 1893, aged 72 years, 11 days. Funeral services at Union Chapel in Keokuk county, January 7, conducted by Rev. S. Quick. The subject of this notice was born in Meigs county, Ohio, Dec. 25, 1820, where he lived till 1849, where he emigrated to Iowa, and settled in Van Buren county, remaining there two years, and then in 1851, he settled in the western part of Keokuk county, where he lived until about nine years ago, when he went to Nebraska, living there until a few days prior to his death. He became ailing, and his son, M.V. Alderman and sister, Mrs. J.E. Rhinehart went to visit him, and the old gentleman and wife returned to Iowa with their son and daughter. It was thought that perhaps he might recover after his return here, but his vital forces were too nearly exhausted, and he yielded to the embrace of the grim monster. His aged companion and eight sons and two daughters survive him to mourn his loss.

Children include:Arza Adolphus of Tyler, Washington, Elisha Wesley of Idaho, Milton Vandemark, Joseph Henry, Maria Josephine Butler, Elizabeth Phrosine Rhinehart, Eli Newton, James Redford, Zachariah Nash, Hosea Sheldon, Hercules Campbell, and Nancy Sarilda Alderman(1865-1870).
