Vane Baccus Ryder, age 89, passed away December 26, 2000, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Services were held at the Seymour Church of Christ, officiated by A. B. Martin. Interment was held at the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ryder was born August 15, 1911 in Erath County, Texas near Dublin. She grew up in Vera, Texas and moved to Baylor County in 1929.
Vane Timberlake and Lee Roy Baccus were married June 2, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She later married John A. Ryder. He preceded her in death November 11, 1990.
She will be remembered as a faithful member of the church of Christ and as the supportive wife of an elder in the Seymour congregation for forty years. She loved the Lord with all her heart and put her total trust in him.
Vane Baccus Ryder owned and operated the "Little Store" on her property just north of Seymour Elementary School for over twenty years; it was here at this small establishment that she acted as teacher, helping many children begin or add to their practical knowledge skills of how to ‘make change' from their purchases of food and supplies.
Vane loved gardening and was among the first to plant new flowers and bulbs; she could hardly wait to nourish the plants to maturity. She eagerly awaited the coming of spring and the planting of her seeds, most notably black-eyed peas, green beans, okra, tomatoes, onions, and beets; from her apricot, peach, pear and plum trees and berry vines she made delicious preserves and jelly. Throughout her life, multiple shelves in her closets were lined with jars of canned vegetables and fruits, visual evidence of her industry and love of life. Perhaps her most obvious and respected quality was her generous spirit; and it was because of this innate generosity that she gladly gave to her family, neighbors, and friends far more of her produce than she kept for herself.
Her greatest love was her family. Not only was every room in her home filled with pictures of her immediate children and their families, but surrounding walls and shelves proudly displayed photographs of her extended family and cherished friends.
Rejoicing with her at the successful completion of this earthly journey are her three sons and daughters-in-law; Carroll and Betty Baccus of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Gene and Gerrie Baccus of Lake Jackson, Texas and John and Shella Baccus of San Marcos, Texas. Also among her greatest joys were her three grandsons and two granddaughters; Daniel and Corliss Baccus of Richardson, Mark and Kathryn Baccus of Weehawken, New Jersey; Alan and Christina Baccus of Denton and Tracee Herring of Lake Jackson, Texas. Her beloved granddaughter, Sherrie Lynn Baccus predeceased her. Her legacy also includes five great grandchildren of whom she was most proud. Alexis Baccus of Richardson; Josh and Kara Baccus of Denton and Kippin and Kristin Herring of Lake Jackson. She is also survived by three sisters; Dottie Golightly of Gainesville, Texas; Hilda Trainham of Wylie, Texas and Rudene Stone of Abilene, Texas. Two brothers, Clay and Ergle Timberlake predeceased their sister.
During the last six years of this habitation, she shared a mutual love with her daily caregiver and friend, Pat Frazier.
