Robert G. Carlson, 78, of Hibbing, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.
He was born on May 2, 1931, at Virginia. Bob grew up in Cook, and was united in marriage to Norma Jokinen on Aug. 22, 1959, at Chisholm. The couple had lived in Cook and Ely for a time, and had resided in Hibbing since 1969. Bob was skilled mechanic and has worked for Security Garage in Hibbing for nearly 25 years. In the early years, he also was a mechanic at Mike Motors in Ely, the Ford Garage in Chisholm and Gustafson Motors in Cook. He was affiliated with the Chisholm Baptist Church. He was a wonderful caregiver.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma; one sister, Helen (Arvid) Edblom of Virginia; and numerous other special relatives along with Megan, Joseph and Garrett – who Bob and Norma considered as grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Frances Kleppe.
Funeral: Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook with the Rev. Dan Erickson of the Chisholm Baptist Church officiating. Visitation: A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home of Cook.
