IVAN GOURD
CLAREMORE, Okla. - Services for Ivan Gourd were held Friday, August 30, 2002, in Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Chapel in Claremore. Pastor Dale Thorne officiated. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Sandy Baptist Church Indian Cemetery in Sulphur, Okla. Pastor Bill Frazier will conduct the interment service.
Ivan died Wednesday, August 28, in Saint Francis Hospital. He was 59 years old.
The son of Dan R., Jr. and Ora Mae Cravatt Gourd was born April 28, 1943 in Claremore. He attended Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kan. and studied culinary arts at Okmulgee Technology Center. Ivan served in the United States Navy for four years as an air traffic controller. He was employed as an inventory control supervisor for Tulsa Community College since 1978.
Ivan was always interested in his Indian culture as he was born of Chickasaw, Cherokee decent. He had attended the Chickasaw National Holiday celebrations several times. Ivan enjoyed traveling and was very close to his family.
Family members who survive are: sisters, Joan Neal of Jay, Okla., June and husband, Max Holcomb, of Miami, Okla., and Janet and husband, Jim Patterson, of Claremore; four nephews and three nieces; and a special friend Sally Mattrox of Tulsa, Okla.
Ivan is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth "Bob" Gourd; and two sisters Tammy Louise Barehead and Virginia Moore.
