∼Joy was my father's sister. She was the second of five children born to Clarence Michael Caple and Maud Bond Caple.
At the time of her first marriage Joy was only 15 years old and her groom was 27 years old. She married Bruce Amos McDiffett in August, 1913, in Alta Vista, KS. They had one child together: Kenneth Jack McDiffett.
Her second marriage was to Harry Vernon Purdue in April 1922, in OK. Their children together were: Vernon Purl and Billy Caple Purdue.
Everyone loved Harry Purdue. He was said to be a very kind man. He passed away at the age of 35 with diabetes. His boys were only 2 and 3 months old.
Her third marriage was to Howard Lee Norris. They had no children together.
My Aunt Joy was always the life of the party. She spent her early years in Oklahoma moving to Huntington Beach, CA, in the 40's where she co-owned, with her husband Howard Lee, a beauty shop/real estate office, all in the same building. She could do anything and grinned and told great jokes most of the time. My memories of her, and these early times of living in a then small beach town, were enough to last me a lifetime. We used to go over to her house every Sunday after church. Most of the time my brother and I were shooed outside to play and I'm sure that's when the fun began. I always picture her standing over a skillet frying something or other while the grease flew everywhere. One time she accidentally ground up her false teeth in "that contraption known as a garbage disposal". She had put her teeth in her napkin but napkins went down the disposer too! Well, it was for "garbage" after all.
