Alta Laura Whyte was born in Stevenson Co., Illinois, August 21, 1892, and died at her home near Cushing August 7, 1936, aged 43 years, 11 months and 16 days. Her early years were spent in Illinois. Together with the family she moved to Hampton, Iowa, and later to Grand Meadow Twp. in Cherokee Co., Iowa. Since her marriage she has resided near Cushing most of the time. December 13, 1912, she married Irwin B. Whyte. To this union two sons, Roland and Melvin and four daughters, Gwendolyn, Dorothy, Charlotte and Lucile were born. She joined the Methodist church in Cushing. She then transferred to the United Brethren Church when she moved to Grand Meadow. She is survived by her husband, six children, three grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Jennie Law of Pierson, four sisters, Mrs. H.U. Klingensmith of Grand Meadow, Mrs. Frank Atkinson of Minneapolis, Mrs. A.R. Keck of Grand Meadow, and Mrs. Kenneth Ellis of Pierson, three brothers, Holland Law of Sioux City, Glen Law of Pierson, and Lester Law of Denver, Colo., other relatives and many friends. Last winter she was taken seriously ill with pneumonia, but after a lengthy struggle regained sufficient strength to be about again. About three weeks ago she suffered another relapse from which she failed to recover. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at the Cushing Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. A.C. Long in charge. Interment was in the Cushing Cemetery under direction of Wilson-Hull Service.
