Lena Yvonne Scroggins-Monroe, age 54, was born September 27, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Rev Clarence E. Scroggins, Sr. and Opal Lee Johnson Scroggins. Her father, Rev Clarence Scroggins, Sr., paternal and maternal grandparents, one brother, Michael Scroggins, and one sister, Kesha Ransberry, preceded her in death.

Vonnie, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools and graduated from Southeast High School, class of 1974. She furthered her education at Kansas City Dental College and later became a dental assistant. Yet in search of God, Vonnie also attended Heart Of America Bible and Theology Seminary where she participated in the prayer band.

For twenty-three years Vonnie was employed with the United States Department of Treasury - Internal Revenue Service as a tax examiner. She was a dedicated worker and a tremendous asset to her co-workers. She was recognized for her service and received the Albert Gallatin Award for impeccable service.

On September 25, 1995, Vonnie married her companion and friend, Alonzo Monroe. Alonzo Monroe & Lena Y. Scroggins-Monroe were united in holy matrimony for fourteen years.

Vonnie departed this life on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Menorah Medical Center.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Alonzo Monroe, two sons, Michael J. Scroggins and DeAndre J. Scroggins, four daughters, Christine Wright (Willie), Alicia Flowers (Earl), Deana Rogers and Angela Monroe, her mother, Opal Lee Ransberry; eight brothers, Clarence "Sonny" Scroggins (Susan) and Kevin Scroggins (Faith), Topeka, Kansas, Logan Scroggins, Dwight W. Scroggins, Steve Midgyett, Tyrone Ashby, Roger Scroggins and William Maxwell; seven sisters, Annette Scroggins, Sally Scroggins and Ellie Scroggins, Topeka, Kansas, Eileen Jones, Sophia Scroggins, Michelle Midgyett and Cassandra Midgyett; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, cousin & special friend, Nancy Williams; best friends, Beatrice Hart and Jancie Emory a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 27, with funeral services beginning at 12:00pm at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Carroll McCarroll officiating. Interment will be in Brooking Cemetery. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
