John Anderson Stricken
Lake Benton residents were again shocked to learn that John Anderson was taken seriously ill last Wednesday night and removed to the Brookings hospital the following day. He underwent an operation the same day for appendicitis, his condition seemingly being hopeless from the start. He grew worse on Saturday night and passed away about two o'clock Sunday afternoon.
The remains were broght to Lake Benton Monday noon.
John Anderson was born in Sweden March 12, 1860,. He emigrated to America in 1881 and settled in St. paul. He learned the carpenter trade in Sweden, where he followed same for a number of years. He also followed his trade in St. Paul, Wisconsin and North Dakota for some time. He came to Lake Benton in the spring of 1893 and has followed his trade from that time until his sickness and death.
He was married to Miss Pauline Friis February 19th, 1901. One son was born to the union.
Besides his wife and son, William, he leaves four brothers, Peter, Nels and Hans of Lake Benton, and Oliph M of St. Paul. Aside from these and two cousins in this state, and numerous nephews and nieces, he has no known relatives in this country.
He was a loving and provident husband and father, a spledid citizen and will be missed by all who knew him. The family have the sympathy of the community in their sudden bereavement.
The funeral services were held from the Baptist church at two thirty o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev Shelly Robinson, pastor, and the interment made in Lake Benton cemetery.
