James R. Ackerman, Retired Steel Worker

James Russell Ackerman, a George L. Mesker Steel Corporation worker for about 41 years, died at Deaconess Hospital at 6 p.m. yesterday, a cerebral palsy victim.

Mr. Ackerman, 66, lived at 1429 Oakley. He entered the hospital eight weeks ago.

He worked in the Mesker stock room when he retired four years ago.

The native of Troy, Ind., was a member of the Owls' Home and Steel Workers Union No. 633.

Surviving are the wife, Lottie; a brother, Raymond of Morgantown, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Alma Schmidt, Evansville; and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Ziemer Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Ernst Press will officiate. Burial in Locust Hill Cemetery.

The Owls will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 8 p.m. today.

James Russell Ackerman, husband of Lottie Ackerman and brother of Raymond Ackerman, passed away at his home in Evansville on Friday, September 9, 1966 after an illness of two years.

Mr. Ackerman was born in Evansville, the son of Henry and Clara (Reynolds) Ackerman. He was reared in Evansville and spent his entire life there. He was a member of the Catholic Faith.

Funeral services were held on Monday at Evansville and burial was made there.

Survivors are one brother, Raymond, Spearsville road, Brown County and one sister, Mrs. Alma Schmidt of Evansville, three nieces, Ruth Osborn, Goldie Huff and Marjorie Sullivan and two nephews, Raymond, Jr. and Duker Ackerman, all of Brown County.
