Joe lived in Oklahoma City with his parents until his father died when he was five and then moved to Oilton when his mother remarried. He and two brothers and a sister moved to Virginia to live with his father's family after the death of his mother when he was twelve. He returned to Oklahoma City in 1929 and lived with his sister until his first marriage to Rosabel Melvin in 1930. They had two children, Billie Jo Erickson nee Lineberry (Stephens) [Memorial# 94519638] and Leonard Melvin Stephens (born Lineberry), before he and Rosabel [Memorial# 104776357] divorced. When Rosabel moved to California and married Brice Stephens, Joe allowed her new husband to adopt the children. Joe married Lillian Gerik in 1940 and they had one daughter. Joe worked in the oilfield industry. After he retired, he enjoyed going to garage sales.
