Neri and his wife, Emily had 11 children but only eight lived to adulthood. The couple were one of the founding families of Pasco County, Florida. Sadly, they lost their entire citrus grove during Florida's Great Freeze of 1895. Neri became extremely depressed and began to drink heavily. Emily divorced Neri around the turn of the century. She was raised in a Christian home, her father was a preacher and she refused to continue to put up with her husband's drinking. Both Neri and Emily remarried.
