Obituary published in The Williamsburg Enterprise dated April 3, 1925:

Another of those grandmothers that have made America what it is has been called to the great beyond from this community; Melissa Ricker was born in Ottawa, Canada, March 4, 1840, and died {of pneumonia} at the home of her son, John H. Baldwin, March 29, 1925, at the ripe old age of 85 years and 25 days. She married LeRoy Howard Sr., in 1862 and after his death {in March 1864} she married John Baldwin, in1867. To these unions were born Leroy Howard, Williamsburg, Fred S. Baldwin, Estacada, Oregon, Stephen C. Baldwin, New Salem, Kansas, Mrs. Effie Mae Baldwin Horren, Gurney, Colo., and John H. Baldwin, Williamsburg, all of whom survive her.
She has lived in this section since 1856 and was one of the pioneers of Kansas. Deceased was a member of the M.E. church and always lived a consistent Christian life.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the M.E. church in Williamsburg, and was largely attended by those who came to pay a tribute of respect to a long and honored life. Rev. B.A. Silverthorn officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
