In June of 1913, her mother put her and her younger brother, Johan Oskar Gunnar Grann on a boat to the United States. Ellis Island records indicate that Karin (age 15) and Johan Grann (age 12) arrived June 24, 1913 in New York. The records also indicate that the children were held about 6 days for "special inquiry." They were officially admitted into the United States on June 30, 1914. Ellis Island records indicate that they were to go to their mother's brother, John F. Magnuson, in Elgin, Texas.
