COPE, David "Herschel" age 86 of Centerville, OH passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Kettering, OH. He was born October 2, 1923 in Maulden, Jackson County Kentucky to Millie Francis Wolfe and John Andrew Cope.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Ronald Wayne Cope, brothers, Merrit Wolfe, Ernest Wayne Cope, Wendell Cope, Willie Ray Cope and sisters, Pearl Lowery and Daisy Lynch. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruth McDaniel Cope; his daughters Linda Brock and husband Jeff, Barbara Schlater and husband Bill, and son David Cope and wife Connie; his grandchildren, Jennifer Schrein and husband Aaron, Aaron Brock and wife Renee, Brian Cope, Kimberly Kennedy and husband Joe, and Nathan Schlater; great-grandchildren Andrew Brock, Emily Brock, and Braden Schrein; and sister, Mary Montana (Tana) Bowman, many nieces and nephews who cherished him as a father image, and a caregiver for many including his sister-in-law, Myrtice McDaniel. He was a proud member of the 2nd Armored Division, "Hell on Wheels" during WWII and was wounded near Aachen, Germany. He retired from Delco Moraine Products where he was very involved with the UAW. He was a member of St. Johns Lodge No. #13, Silver Trowel Council #141, Reed Commandery #6, Knights Templar. He was an avid gardener, arborist, mechanic and enjoyed sharing his interest in genealogy with family and friends.

Visitation at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, Ohio. Funeral services at the funeral home with Chaplain Rau'l Concha. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
